Country Partnership Strategy

Purpose of the Country Partnership Strategy (CPS)?

Every two to three years, the World Bank designs a work plan to guide its operations in a client country. Previously this work plan was outlined in a document called Country Assistance Strategy or CAS but beginning this year the Bank shifted its focus from “assistance to the country” to “partnership with the country” given positive changes in Kazakhstan’s economy. Therefore, during 10 months, the Bank and the GOK have been preparing a Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) for CY 2004 through 2007. The CPS is the key instrument defining World Bank engagement in Kazakhstan in support of the Government's reform agenda in the key areas of strategic importance jointly defined by the Bank and the Government of Kazakhstan and outlined in the Indicative Plan of Social and Economic Development for 2004-2006 and Medium Term Fiscal Framework implementation, including the socio economic objectives set for 2015. To this end, the CPS takes into account the country’s economic situation, its development priorities and its economic performance. The CPS  also reflects the Bank’s mandate as an international development institution and what it is most capable of contributing relative to other development agents and sources of financing.
