Kazakhstan: Electricity Transmission Rehabilitation Project

The following project was approved yesterday by the World Bank's Board:

LOAN AMOUNT: IBRD - US$140 million
Terms: Maturity = 20 years; Grace Period = 5 years
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project will assist the government and the Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company (KEGOC) in improving the quality of electricity supply, develop a competitive electricity market, and restructure KEGOC into an efficient grid company. The total cost of the project is US$258.4 million. Other contributors include the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (US$56 million) and KEGOC (US$62.4 million).
