LOAN AMOUNT: IBRD-US$15 million
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project will lay the groundwork for accelerating commercialization of rural enterprises by: (1) establishing advisory services; (2) creating the legal and institutional environment conducive to rural lending; and (3) providing the means for commercial banks to increase lending to farms and associated enterprises. The approach is to develop and refine procedures and demonstrate the benefits from successful restructuring for rural enterprises in two key agricultural oblasts- Akmola and Almaty.
